MONTEVERDE WEATHER – SOMETIMES SUNNY, SOMETIMES MISTY, SURELY ALWAYS MAGICAL.
Monteverde weather is as wonderfully unpredictable as the emotions of a teenager. One moment it can be sunny and the next it can be thundering. It sometimes has rain and wind storms that come as if someone turns the switch on and off. It can last up to 5 days.
Visitors to Monteverde are often thrown off by these weather changes. They come into Monteverde’s Cloud Forest, still they expect it to be sunny during their one time visit. Costa Rica does not have the landmass to heat up and store the heat. We are sandwiched between two huge masses of water – from coast to coast it is less than 200 km, and we have a high continental divide that all the winds have to pass over. Monteverde is almost sitting on top of this ledge. Not to forget that we are also located between North and South America on this small strip of land.
Surprisingly we have a lot of sunny days and even a real dry season between February and May. Above all, come to Monteverde prepared for change. While temperatures are usually moderate, you’ll appreciate having a long sleeve shirt available and a rain jacket. Ponchos are of course available for sale locally if you get caught without, but umbrellas don’t fare well in our wind!
The weather forecast is here. Make sure during your stay to ask specifically again when you are heading out for a tour what to expect.
